For the past two summers we have had a handful of encounters with snakes in our backyard. Just simple little garter snakes. They are fun to watch when you are prepared for them, but for me when they slither out of a hiding spot and scare me, I don’t like that. I have been on the watch out this spring for snakes. I know they like to hide in one of our compost piles, so I try to stay clear of digging around over there.
Tonight as the hubs was mowing the lawn he turned off the mower and shouted, “I got one!” I had no idea what he was talking about.
“Got one, what?” I replied.
“A snake. I mowed over a snake!”
Eww. Sure enough, he mowed off the head and part of the tail (I removed the remainder from our yard, all by my big girl self!). The rest of the snake was no where in site. I hoped the mulcher, just took care of that for us?!? I know gross. But what is even more gross is what I saw later on.
I was peering out the window and noticed the neighbor’s cat licking and nibbling something from the grass. It was right where the snake was decapitated. I am just sure the cat was finishing off what I couldn’t find. Now… to tell the neighbor, or not to tell the neighbor that their cat was snacking on snake in our back yard. Eww. I am just glad it is one less snake to startle me as I work in the back yard.
Happy Gardening!
