Budgeting and Level Pay

The hubs and I are getting better at budgeting. It has been an adjustment taking two independent 30+ year olds with our own individual spending and saving habits (mostly spending) and meshing them together. We are approaching our third wedding anniversary next week and after three year of trying to get a budget down, I can now say we are getting there!

When it comes to budgeting our regular monthly expenses, we like predictability. That is why level pay has been so wonderful. Where I live in Boise, Idaho nearly all of our utilities for our home offer a budget/level pay if you have lived in your residence for at least a year. Our electricity, gas and water are all set up in this manner. I love knowing that whether or not it is summer or winter the power bill is going to be “x” amount and same with the others.

It is June 2nd and we are still getting cold enough weather that I have had to turn on the heater. It doesn’t help that both of the kids are sick with coughs and low-grade fevers.

This past winter we had to keep the house warmer due to Lil’Bean coming early. His premature little body needed it warmer. This had the hubs worrying about how much our bill was going to increase when re-evaluation came around this May. I wasn’t too worried, and we got our revised bill for the next year and it only went up a dollar or two. When you split it up the increased use between 12 months the cost is minimal, which helps in the long run when money is tight!

So get your phones out and call your local utility company and get set up on level pay. It is a wonderful budget aid.

What do you do to make your monthly budget easier? I would love to hear!

Happy Budgeting!

I'd never heard of the level pay. I'll have to look into that when I move out of here.

It is awesome. You have to have lived there for a year for most of the companies to do it, but yes, do look into it!!
