Developmental Update: Lil'Miss 28 Months Lil;Bean 9 Months

Another milestone update for the kiddos. I can’t believe Lil’Bean is 9 months old!!! He is growing like a weed and is ready to move on up to 12 month old clothes. I was curious at how much he weighs so I weighted him today and he is 22lbs. It is no wonder hauling his car seat around is like packing bricks.

He is not only getting bigger, he is learning so much. He is a proficient army crawler, we are just sure he is military material. He loves to crawl behind the couch; easy for him, hard for mama to retrieve him. He also loves to crawl into the tight space between the toilet and the tub in the bathroom. He hasn’t learned that isn’t the most pleasant place to hang out.

Gross motor wise he is also loving standing up and is beginning to take steps as he holds onto the couch. He is also a climber. What ever he encounters on the floor, he prefers to go over rather than around. Every once and a while he get high centered.

Lil’Bean now has six teeth, four on top and two on the bottom. He loves snacking on cheerios, and crackers. His round little body tells it all, he is a good eater.

He has a great pincer grasp and is getting quick at picking up his cheerios. He no longer has to take a fist full at a time to get them in his mouth.

He is the sweetest little boy, his giggles brighten my day and he is so much fun. Lately we have been working on learning how to clap and wave bye, bye. So far it is a no go, but I don’t think it will take long before he is clapping and waving away.

Lil’Miss is always on the move. She is a happy soul too (most of the day). Lately she plays and runs until she is exhausted and falls asleep in her tracks. It makes for some late nights.

A couple of days ago I wrote about our binkie dilemma. The binkies are helping her get to bed a little more cheerfully. When she asks for her “bink” I tell her to go to bed and I will give it to her. She willingly runs to bed and waits for me to bring them to her. With her late afternoon naps, she usually isn’t even tired yet, but she will quietly sit in her room and lay on her bed or the floor. Tonight I checked in two hours after we put her down and she was still awake. I am just grateful the kicking on the wall and the doors, which she has been doing a lot recently are subsiding.

This is where we are at with potty training... The picture says it all.

Language wise she uses two word phrases often. I have been encouraging her to use sentences when asking for things. Occasionally she will repeat more than two words. She does have her own language where she speaks in paragraphs. She starts jabbering getting a word here and there and looks to me to continue the conversation. It is cute.

She is picking up on phrases that I probably say too often like, “Oh man!” or “Darn it”. But on the up side she is learning how to pray. When we are saying the blessing on the food I will have her repeat me and if I say, “We are thankful for this food” she might say, “Thank you food”.

Lil’Miss loves to play at the park. She does great at most of the ladders and climbing structures, although many of them make me nervous. She calls all ladders “snides” (slide). Even the ladder up to our loft and the step stool I keep in the laundry room.

She is friendly and social and is always on the move. Lately she has been very helpful. I was feeding Lil’Bean when she started playing with my camera which I had left within her reach. I took the camera to put it away and when I returned she was trying to be momma’s helper and feed Lil’Bean mac and cheese with the spoon. He was a good sport, although she nearly gagged him a couple of times. She is very observant and likes to take opportunities to “help” brother when I step away. She is a sweet big sister.

Lil’Miss is using more names. She refers to “gamaw” (grandma), “gapa” (grandpa), her little friend at church “Ben Ben” (Benjamin), her cousins “maee” (Maddie) and “A B” (Abree). I love seeing her make associations. I think she has called me by my first name several times too, “A mer” (Amber).

It is fun to see my kids grow and I am always amazed at how little brains develop and mold.

Happy Growing!

Megan I miss you too! I wish it were easier for me to pack up and get out of town. It just isn't as easy as it was before kids. Have fun with all the cousins this weekend, and Martha!!
