35 And An Addition

Today is my 35th Birthday.  It is amazing how life just flies by.  Oh, what an adventure it can be…

Announcing our family’s newest addition!!

No we are not having a baby! Not yet at least.

Let me explain.  Since I am on this crazy 100% debt free kick, I have thrown myself into all creative avenues.  It’s a necessary evil.

In the next month we are moving into “Tiny Home”.  This little home is half the size of our former home and a quarter the size of my Grandparents home where we have been living the past three months and currently we are storing most of our “stuff” in a storage unit.  In simplifying my life I would love to snap my fingers and poof… all of our things to be gone, but in reality it just is not going to happen.

We have eliminated a lot of “stuff” but I am pretty sure we still have too much to fit into our small home.  I have been feeling a little anxious about getting a plan in place so when moving day comes we can empty our storage unit and not have to pay the hefty $100 rent to store “stuff”.  It just doesn't make sense to shovel out money when there are other solutions.

My original plan was to purchase or build a storage unit on the property to supplement our little garage for storage but as I researched I was not feeling satisfied with the options.  I was going to have to shell out a few thousand to get a decent shed. And it just wasn't going to accommodate the budget right now.

I then got this crazy idea of finding an old camp trailer and converting it into our storage unit.  A mobile storage unit of sorts….

So here she is… Opal Alice. All her 23 feet and dual axle!

Suspense is gonna get you, keep scrolling....

I know I am a bit crazy.  I had the name before I even found the trailer.  And even more crazy I named the trailer that is going to be our storage unit.  The hubs is really concerned that I have completely gone bonkers!  I think he is half right.  I suppose it comes with age.

This little trailer is our little diamond in the rough.  Not so pretty, but she will be sufficient for our needs.  I would love to say that the inside fared better than the outside, but oh goodness.  It is pretty bad.  I can not believe that I got my husband to go along with this crazy idea!  Once he realized that we will be saving huge in the long run, he was okay with it all.  Besides once we no longer need it for storage we can fix it back up and use it for camping, or just pass it along to someone else for a fix up project.

The hubs wondering what on earth he just got himself into!!!

So to add to the list of to-do’s is to now finish stripping the inside of the trailer, do a few patch-ups to make sure she isn't leaking and we will be on our way to having a mobile storage unit!  We got her parked at her new home this weekend and once she is stripped of her grossness we will be one step closer to living our 100% debt free life!  Tomorrow I will share the rest of the story of acquiring this crazy piece of work!!
Stay tuned!

So please share… is there anything you have done that was completely off your rocker to reach a financial goal??

Happy Saving!

Such a creative solution.....and she's got her own identity. Of course I understand as I name inanimate creatures, too!

Hi, I'm new to your blog and actually found your site by searching for DIY peat pots. I am so excited I stumbled across your site as I too am on a mission to be debt free! The credit card debt had been gone for over a year, but we still have a couple student loans and a car to pay off before tackling the mortgage. Thanks for the DIY peat moss cup idea, I just cleaned out the recycle bin in search of t.p. rolls. I also pinned your link. Thanks for sharing!
